My recollection of Exile 1 combats was Anti-Magic Shell, over and over again. Half the fun of Exile/Avernum is to inventory your kitchenware. In my recent Avernum 1 revisit, I simplify this to the bowls pile, the spoons pile,Īnd several other piles. I collected every skull I found, brought them back to a persistent building, Sitting down in chairs around long tables was a novelty. I remember each incremental improvement in Spiderweb's graphics engine. I registered it on a Mac, and later bought DOS/Win CDs of Exile 1-3 and Blades. Shareware Exile 1 on a Mac in a computer lab circa mid-1990s. Where you there for exile? Brand new to the series? In the end it was word of mouth that (finally) got me to the series and I plan to enjoy the trip.Ĭurious to know how everyone else discovered the series. Needless to say it was all very impressive especially in an age where "streamlined" RPG's seem to flood the market. Spidersoft's approach to indie gaming and the focus on rich story telling verse graphical bravado. Not just the single story of being thrust into an underground prison but more a overview of all the games in each series. I was out on a camping trip with a fellow CRPG fan and the topic obviously steered towards some of our favorite games of the genre.īG, BG:2, Fallout 1/2, Planescape: Torment. The second is that I haven't even heard of this game/series/spidersoft till recently. One is that I only recently started playing Avernum EFTP. I have to admit that I am alittle ashamed for two particular reasons while im posting this.
